Requirements

Must:
- Successfully completed degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field, or a technical qualification with further training as a certified technician or master craftsman (m/f/d) - Extensive professional and industry experience in Life Sciences & Pharma is essential - Several years (minimum 7 years) of in-depth experience in system architecture design, development of automation strategies, and the conceptual design of complex production systems - Strong knowledge of: - Systems Engineering principles (requirements development, interface management, V-model, risk analysis and mitigation) - Proven experience with CAD and simulation tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks preferred) - Industrial automation systems (robotics, PLCs, SCADA, MES, data acquisition, I/O) - Data and integration protocols (OPC, Ethernet/IP, etc.) - Vertical integration layers above core automation systems (MES, SCADA, ERP, cloud/edge platforms, analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc.) - Smart factory frameworks (Industry 4.0, digital twin concepts, etc.) - Confident user of Microsoft 365 applications, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio - Strategic, system-level thinking with the ability to analyze complex relationships in a structured manner and translate them into clear, understandable concepts - Strong communication skills to effectively bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders - Excellent command of both English and German - Willingness to travel occasionally, domestically and internationally

Responsibilities

- Strategic responsibility for the conceptual system architecture of industrial manufacturing and production platforms, in close collaboration with customers in the Life Sciences and Pharma industries, integrating automation, digital systems, data, and physical equipment - Definition of target architectures, including system boundaries, value chains, material and data flows, as well as IT/OT interfaces, serving as the foundation for subsequent detailed engineering - Development of clear, actionable system requirements and acceptance criteria traceable to industry-specific customer needs, business objectives, and regulatory requirements - Creation of system and architecture concepts using simulations, modeling, and studies to evaluate architectural options, capacity strategies, and system performance scenarios - Application of data-driven, model-based, and digital methods to validate design assumptions, identify risks, and optimize architectural outcomes prior to handover to design teams - Early identification, assessment, and mitigation of technological, operational, and organizational risks across the entire product, process, and system lifecycle - Close collaboration with customers and internal teams to develop relevant use cases, assess digital maturity, and design future-ready system solutions - Alignment of solution architectures with Engineering, Controls, IT, Operations, and Sales, taking into account long-term customer strategies and implementation capabilities - Creation and maintenance of architecture deliverables, including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), functional block diagrams, and initial risk registers - Contribution to the further development of company-wide frameworks for smart manufacturing, digital enablement strategies, and the integration of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) - Support of all functional areas in implementation planning, particularly with regard to overall scheduling and budget control
